Recorded June 20, 2019
This webinar describes CPT® coding for behavioral health services, including services performed by therapists, psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants. It will answer questions about how to code for initial evaluations, re-evaluations, medication management (with and without psychotherapy on the same day), psychotherapy for patients in crisis, and the interactive complexity add-on code. It will include an overview of diagnostic coding from Chapter 5, mental, behavioral and neurodevelopmental disorders.
Getting paid for behavioral health is partially determined by the clinician’s licensure and the state’s scope of practice for individuals with that license. This webinar will not address those issues, because they vary by state.
After the session, participants will be able to:
- Select the correct code for initial evaluations and re-evaluations
- Describe the coding requirements when using crisis psychotherapy codes
- Understand how to bill for E/M services on the day of psychotherapy
