Some Fee Schedule rules are almost boring, but not this year!
CMS is proposing significant changes to the payment of and documentation for new and established patient visits. This will be a sea change for most groups, particularly groups that use RVUs for physician compensation or that have coders coding all E/M services.
CMS is proposing an effective date of January 1, 2019, but asking for comments about whether the effective date should be 2020.
There are many other proposed changes, as well, including new HCPCS codes for brief virtual check in and a 30 minute prolonged services codes. There are two new HCPCS codes to be used with E/M services, one for primary care and one for certain other specialties.
CMS is proposing to reduce the payment when an E/M service is submitted with modifier 25 on the day of a procedure with a 0 day global.
This webinar will describe the proposals, and keep in mind, this is the proposed, not the final rule.
After the webinar, participants will be able to:
• Describe the proposed rules for office E/M services
• Evaluate if the new HCPCS codes can be used in your practice
• Know where to send comments on these proposals.
