Checking my crystal ball, my guess is Friday, November 2. Late afternoon.
CMS releases its final rule about 60 days before it goes into effect, and this rule’s effective date is January 1, 2019.
We are anxiously awaiting their decision about the fate of E/M office codes, payment reduction when modifier 25 is on a claim, and add-on complexity codes for primary care and other selected specialties.
CMS loves to drop these rules late on a Friday afternoon, to give consultants and policy wonks something to do over the weekend. I took a look at the release dates for the final rule for the past nine years, and November 2 seems like a good bet. I’ll write about it of course, and am doing a webinar on November 20 to tell you all the details.
